3 more days of award-winning films, parties, and more

Three more days remain of the Budapest Pride LGBTQ Film Festival, which ends Sunday, Nov. 3. Until then, viewers can watch a number of award-winning films for the first and last time in Hungary. Events over the long weekend will be held at the Toldi Art Cinema, Művész Art Cinema, and Hátsó Kapu.

The selection includes the 2012 documentary How to Survive a Plague (USA), which was nominated for best documentary at the Oscars. The film shows how New York AIDS activists used direct action to agitate for AIDS treatment, guiding the way to the discovery of effective AIDS drugs that stopped an HIV diagnosis from being an automatic death sentence. The 2013 Polish film Floating Skyscrapers (Płynące wieżowce), which received the East of the West award at the international Karlovy Vary Film Festival, will also be featured. Other highlights include Free Fall (Freier Fall). Nominated for the Teddy award at this year’s Berlinale Festival, this 2013 German feature film depicts a growing romance between two police officers. The U.S. documentary Wish Me Away (2011) explores the coming out process of a country singer, showing the struggles of a celebrity face the pressures of measuring up to others' expectations and fear of losing one's community before choosing to accept herself. The Slovene Dual (Dvojina, 2013) can't be missed. The film, which was nominated for the East of West award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, explores various cultures and languages through the story of an accidental meeting. For a good laugh, make sure to check out Who's Afraid of Vagina Woolf? (2013, USA) and G.B.F. (2013, USA), if you haven't watched them yet.

In addition to feature films, documentaries, and the alternative/short selections Changes and Touches, two parties await visitors of the film festival. The DJs of !Szkafander will play at WERKMUSIC on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Toldi Art Cinema. EJECT, the closing party of the festival will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 at Gödör Klub, with music provided by the DJs of Brutkó Diszkó and Budapest Pride.
